Who We Are

Franzen Simmentals

Cattle have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up on a farm in northeast Nebraska, I helped my father with chores including feeding cattle. When I was of age, I joined 4-H with beef projects, showing at our county fairs and Ak-Sar-Ben.

Later when I married a farm girl, we began our own farming operation near our families. We started with a small herd of commercial crossbred cattle. It was not until 1978 that we purchased our first Simmental calf for our daughter to show as her breeding heifer project. Later, her brothers joined her with cattle projects, showing in county fairs, the Nebraska State Fair and Ak-Sar-Ben. We liked what we saw, their disposition, and their ability to put on pounds. That was when Simmentals became a part of our lives and eventually evolved into a herd of purebred and percentage breeding stock.

Today our herd consists of black and red Simmental bloodlines. We emphasize the production, maternal traits and disposition that they exemplify. Proven genetics are used through AI and Embryo Transplant Programs. We are proud to say that Franzen Simmentals involves our children and grandchildren.
